The present Lanjut Resort development commenced in 1989 and took its name from a small village called Kampung Lanjut, which itself was named after an indigenous tree - Pokok Lanjut.
You might be surprised to know that the small idyllic village was once a very busy and large community. In fact, it may have been one of the liveliest
communities in the district of Rompin, Pahang Darul Makmur. This was because the Lanjut estate was the base camp of a large mining company which thousands of workers were housed.
In 1955, the Pahang State Government had granted approval to Eastern Mining & Mineral Company (EMCO) to operate iron ore mines in Bukit Ibam. EMCO
transported its mining produce by train some 70km from Bukit Ibam to Lanjut and the iron ore was then conveyed to freighter ships via barges launched from their own jetty located on the banks of Rompin River.
Today, Lanjut continues the legacy of providing hospitality to an international audience with much more recreational activities.
If you observe carefully, the road from Muadzam Shah to Lanjut seems very straight, not hard to imagine that it was once a railway track. One of the trains used
are now on display at the Rompin District Office bearing the insignia‘No.446’. Remain of the mining company jetty can still be seen from the present Lanjut jetty and an airstrip that was used on those halcyon days is still serviceable.
