The many natural lakes, man-made lakes and rivers in the country are home to over 300 species of freshwater fish. One famous destination is Tasik ( Lake) Kenyir in Terengganu. Covering an area of about 380 sq km, it is South-East Asia's largest man-made lake and the country's largest expanse of fresh water. The flooded forests in Kenyir, created by the waters of over 40 rivers, offer the best fishing destinations.
Other famous freshwater angling destinations include Tasik Temenggor and Tasik Chenderoh. Like Kenyir, Tasik Temenggor, covering an area of around 150 sq km, was also built to produce hydroelectric power. Anglers should also visit Tasik Chini and
Tasik Bera ( Malaysia's largest natural body of freshwater), both located in Pahang. There are more than 95 species of fish here, but they are primarily Toman hunting grounds. Upper Endau River in the Endau-Rompin National Park, Kuala Koh and Kuala Tahan, both in Taman Negara (National Park), make up the rest of the list of best freshwater fishing destinations in the country. Accommodations are available in most of these fishing destinations. |
