South China Sea and the Sulawesi Sea are popular spots for game fishing. Among the prime destinations for game fishing are the Aur, Pemanggil and Tioman Islands. These islands are the main game fishing centres of the southern region and the prime Black Marlin regions in Peninsular Malaysia. Pulau Perak, about 60 nautical miles southwest of Langkawi and Tukun Perak, an atoll about 10 nautical miles south of Pulau Perak, are most famous for their Giant Trevally, where specimens of over 40kg have been recorded.

Labuan and its surrounding islands are the places for game fishing. However, the best fishing spots are the Lucornia Shoals, situated at about 164 nautical miles west of Labuan. It is an excellent spot for game fishing and deep-water bottom fishing. The waters around Sulawesi Sea near Pulau Mabul are the place to get big Yellowfin Tuna, Marlin and Sailfish.
