Mountain Climbing
Malaysia is blessed with a number of spectacular mountains that cater to beginners as well as experienced climbers who are looking for challenging, spine-tingling climbs. The excursion up the highest mountain in Southeast Asia, Mount Kinabalu, is an exhilarating experience. Some of the mountains require climbers to have a certain level of fitness. Friendly guides are always there to provide assistance.
Jungle Trekking
Large tracts of equatorial rainforests in the country offer plenty of interesting trails for jungle trekking. No doubt, jungle trekking is one of the best ways to enjoy the lush greenery of these 130 million-year old forests, as well as its wonderful variety of plant and animal life.
Cave Exploring
Beautifully sculpted stalagmites and stalactites, huge chambers inhabited by bats, iron-age cave paintings and the largest limestone cave systems in the world. These are some of the attractions that brought many people, particularly adventure seekers to explore the caves in Malaysia.
Bird Watching
Bird lovers will love Malaysia, as the vast expanses of tropical rainforest in the country are home to more than 700 species of exotic birds including some extremely rare species. Every year, migratory birds can be seen in abundance in Malaysia due to its location on the cross-migratory paths of certain bird species. Bird's sanctuaries have also been designated throughout the country.
There are three distinctive habitat types for birds in Malaysia, which are the montane forests, lowland rainforests and mangroves. Basically, montane forests occur above an elevation of 900 metres. Commonly sighted birds here are Scarlet Sunbum, Long-tailed Broadbill, Orange-bellied Leafbird, Green Magpie and Mountain Tailor Bird.
Lowland rainforests, including freshwater swamp, peat and hill dipterocarp forests, are the most extensive habitat for more than 200 species of birds that include Blue-winged Pitta, Banded Woodpecker, Sunbird, Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot and Yellow-bellied Prinia. Species of birds that are likely to be seen on the mangrove forest are Common Kingfisher, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Purple Heron, Great Egret and Brahminy Kite.
