* Pekan Rabu - literally means "Wednesday Market", is located in the middle of Alor Setar. It is well known among the local population and tourists from outside Kedah. Moreover, the fourth Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir, was once a trader in Pekan Rabu.

* Balai Besar - known as the "Great Hall", this impressive edifice is an excellent testimony of the pas historical and cultural relationship between Kedah and Thailand. Built in 1898, it is currently used by the Sultan for royal and state functions.

* Menara Alor Setar (Telekom Tower) - this tower is a prominent and modern landmark that signifies the rapid development in the state of Kedah. It functions as both a telecommunications tower and a tourist attraction.

* Rumah Kelahiran Mahathir - when visiting this place, you will be able to view items during his childhood, his schooldays, till the time he became a doctor. There are photos, furniture and other household items. You can even take a look at his old bicycle.

* The Mausoleum of Sultan Muzaffar Shah (1136 - 1179) - which is located in the district of Kuala Muda. Maharaja Derbar Raja was the first ruler who converted to Islam and changes his name to Sultan Muzaffar Shah.
