Marine parks are
the best place to enjoy the marvelous aquatic life that abounds in Malaysia's
waters. A marine park is an area of the sea that is zoned as a sanctuary for
coral reefs, which is considered as possibly the most productive ecosystem in
the world, with its diversity of flora and fauna.
Certain
activities are prohibited (except with permission) at the marine parks in
Malaysia, such as water or jet skiing, speed boat racing, fishing, destruction,
removal or collection of corals and other aquatic life, etc.
Divers need to
produce their certification cards and logbooks in order to join a diving
expedition. Malaysia accepts certifications from PADI, NAUI, SSI and BSAC. Some
of the marine parks also require visitors to obtain a permit to visit the park.
Thus, it is advisable to check with the relevant authority or travel agents
regarding the permit as well as the activities that are prohibited at the
particular marine park.
